The Stoney Rise Pinot Noir is a 60/40 blend of estate grown fruit and fruit purchased from small growers around the Tamar Valley. The 60% from the estate vineyard comprises just over half of the fruit from vines planted in 2004. The remainder comes from older vines planted in 1986 – which is the component of the blend that gives this wine it’s structure and backbone.
"Dark cherry, baked plums, spice, a little mint, with dried herbs and earth. It’s flavoursome, but kind of stony with fine graphite tannin, a subtle beetroot earthiness, empty chocolate box, some orange zest and amaro, with a cocoa and dry grainy finish of good length. It’s a darker and more forceful vintage of this wine, but it does have a fair bit of X-factor." 92pts | Gary Walsh | Winefront
