Stefano Lubiana Wines established their patch of vines on a special, north-facing site in Granton back in 1990. Their environmentally holistic practices and care for their low-cropping Derwent River estate follows through to the winery with minimal intervention meeting modern techniques. The resulting wines are world-class quality. As Tasmania’s first certified biodynamic vineyard and they have been cultivating their vines using biodynamic methods since 2010.

This means that their wines are free of all synthetic treatments, additives and pesticides. Instead, they travel the alternative path, stepping back in time and using cosmic rhythms to ensure soil regeneration as well as effective vine care through all phases of the year’s seasonal cycles.

"Stefano Lubiana Estate Chardonnay is the most layered and complex of the three Chardonnays we make. A classic example of a robust but beautifully balanced cool climate wine. This wine has all the elements of a great Chardonnay. Present fruit, oak, acid, creamy texture & complexity, but no element overpowers the other. A wonderful wine to enjoy now, or watch it grow and develop over the years." Steve & Monique Lubiana

Incidentally the best Chardonnay I have drunk over the past 12 months.

"Flashy and flinty aromas of orange blossoms, grapefruit peel, lime curd and hazelnuts on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with focused acidity, giving notes of lemons, sea salt, graphite and pastry. A tightly wound wine that will age nicely in bottle for many years to come. Excellent." 95pts | jamessuckling.com
