"David Paxton is one of Australia’s most respected viticulturists, with a career spanning 45+ years. He started his successful premium grower business in '79 and has been involved with planting and managing some of the most prestigious vineyards in McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley, Yarra Valley, Margaret River and Adelaide Hills. There are 6 vineyards in the family holdings in McLaren Vale: Thomas Block (28ha), Jones Block (22ha), Quandong Farm (18ha), Landcross Farm (2ha), Gateway (55ha) and 19th (12ha). All are certified organic and biodynamic. The vineyards hold some of the region’s oldest vines, including EJ shiraz, established in 1887. Paxton’s principal focus is on premium shiraz, grenache and cabernet, though the winery also crafts wines from alternative varieties such as tempranillo, graciano and sangiovese with great success. The cellar door sits on Landcross Farm, a historic 1860s sheep farm in the original village consisting of limestone houses, shearing shed and a pop-up wine bar." James Halliday
The AAA on the label pays homage to David's days in the wool trade and was stamped on the best grades of wool by the Guesser. It is a vibrant blend of approximately 62% Shiraz and 38% Grenache from some special little pockets amongst our vineyards. A lovely blend featuring juicy cherries, chocolate and a savoury texture.
"A blend of 51/41/8% shiraz/grenache/mataro. There’s admirable intensity of flavour and natural-feeling balance here, no doubt from well-tended vines carrying apt crop loads. Wild raspberry and tart blackberry, cherry and red plum, earth and gentle notes of white pepper and warm spices. Generosity and fruitful verve work in lockstep with savoury reserve, making it both a wine for the table and a standalone option. Needless to say, this is stellar value." 92pts | Marcus Ellis | Halliday Wine Companion
