Frankland Estate has grafted 0.5ha to Grüner Veltliner, which grows on the top of a lean ridge to make the VSP-trained vines work hard, sitting on an east-facing slope so they get the morning sun rather than the more intense afternoon sun. The vines are farmed according to the Smith Cullam family's standard organic regime. Berries and bunches are 20-30% bigger than Riesling, with reasonably tight bunches.

The 2023 has a lovely combination of spice and dried pear with slight citrus notes on the nose. Stone fruit, dried summer grass and earthy tones are supported by delicate white and yellow florals and a juicy fruitfulness. The palate is delicate but fleshed out with some textural generosity and a fine weight and line. Textured and linear yet generous in flavour. The spice and floral mix are undeniably Grüner Veltliner. Fresh bright and delicious, this wine will age nicely and gain complexity. Organically grown, vinified and estate bottled.
