Stephen Pannell has twice won Australia’s most prestigious wine award, the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy – most recently in 2014 for his 2013 Adelaide Hills Syrah – and his reputation is further hinted at by his being named one of the 50 most influential contributors to the world of wine by Decanter Magazine.

In 2014, Steve won his second Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy & further cemented his relationship with the great grapegrowing region that is South Australia by setting up a cellar door in the heart of McLaren Vale. His local legend status has been confirmed again and again, winning the Bushing Trophy for best red wine of show in McLaren Vale no less than four times: 2011, 2015, 2016 and 2018.

"This 111 clone Nebbiolo is pretty, pink and delicate, with aromas of blood orange, pomegranate, pink rose petals, pink peppercorns, pickled strawberry, alpine meadows, autumn leaves and the faintest whisper of sage. On the palate, all those notes flow seamlessly, joined by an added dimension of roasted chestnuts and musk that provide depth and backbone to the finish. The texture unfurls slowly: lacy tannins supported by seductive acidity bringing complex refreshment. There’s a trance-like state to its languid poise, giving way to a quiet reveal—graceful, generous, and deeply complex." Stephen Pannell

"Medium-full salmon-pink with a tinge of orange; a rich and engaging bouquet which shows some age development with nuttiness from some barrel involvement as well as density, richness and fleshy texture. There's plenty of phenolics without spoiling the drinkability. A powerful, complex, textural and thoroughly satisfying glass of deadly serious rosé. A rosé for food rather than idle quaffing." 94pts | Huon Hooke | The Real Review
