What can we say about Henschke that hasn't already been said? Australian's greatest family winery, the greatest producer of Eden Valley wines, entrenched as one of the greatest Adelaide Hills makers & of course the maker and custodian of Australian's greatest wine and vineyard - Hill of Grace Shiraz.
"Henschke is the foremost medium-sized wine producer in Australia. Stephen and Prue Henschke have taken a crown jewel and polished it to an even greater brilliance. In this 2021 edition of the Wine Companion, it has a staggering six wines with 97-99 points, and a further 13 with 95-96 points. Year on year they have quietly added labels for single vineyards, single varieties or blends. Recognition as Winery of the Year is arguably long overdue." Halliday Winery of the Year 2021
"Good depth of ruby to garnet colour, showing some development appropriate to its age. The bouquet presents vanilla, chocolate, raspberry and sundry dried herbs, sweeter and increasingly cassisy as it aired. The palate is medium-full bodied and supple in its texture, with a fruit-sweet middle which smacks of crushed raspberries, then a supple tannin finish. Delicious—and it's a wine that responds well to generous airing. (A blend of shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc & merlot)." 95pts | Huon Hooke | The Real Review
"Deeply perfumed and spicy, with aromas of blackcurrants, roasted coffee beans, cedar, blood plums, cured meat and cassis. The palate is seamlessly integrated, with a velvety texture, fine-grained tannins and bright acidity that leads into a supple yet structured finish with lingering flavors of bitter chocolate, mulberries, cigar box and paprika. Made from a blend of 59% shiraz, 33% cabernet sauvignon, 6% cabernet franc and 2% merlot. So much polish and class." 96pts | James Suckling
Organic & Biodynamic Practices
In June 2021 Henachke was awarded a Robert Parker Wine Advocate Green Emblem, which recognises 24 wineries from around the world that have demonstrated extraordinary efforts in the pursuit of environmentally friendly practices. To qualify for this award, a producer may or may not already be organic and/or biodynamic certified, however needs to be an outstanding proponent of sustainability who looks towards long-term environmental protection and biodiversity.
