Juniper may well be the lowest profile winery in the region with proper old vine assets. In this case over 45yrs in age which of course is 'old' for Margaret River. Roger Hill and Gillian Anderson purchased the Wrights' Wilyabrup property in 1998, driven by the 25-year-old vineyard with dry-grown cabernet as the jewel in the crown.
The vineyard is farmed sustainably, following organic principles and dry-grown (unirrigated). All wines are particularly well-priced given the vineyard source.
5 different Tempranillo clones plus 5% Shiraz. 100% single vineyard sourced from estate plantings. The wine is from a mild vintage and consequently the aromas tend towards more red florals, red cherry, blueberry, raspberry, mulberry and a mix of wild herbs, spice, liquorice and sarsaparilla. The palate is smooth with juicy red and black berried fruit, cherry pip, dried herbs and spice flavours, showing medium density and fine, dusty, mouth-coating tannins. Enjoy now and for at least the next 8 years.
