La Prova may well be the standout producer of Italian varieties in 'the Hills'? Sam Scott definitely has a grip on savoury and subtle complexity without sacrificing primary fruit. Anglianico is a native of the Basilicata region (the 'boot' of Italy) and is often referred to as the 'Barolo of the South'. And for good reason - the dry savoury tannins of this grape have much in common with Nebbiolo from Piedmonte. Not sure we've had a better local example of this much under-rated variety.
"The Adelaide Hills is my winemaking backyard, but my addiction to Italian savoury tannin also takes me to where-ever great vineyards are planted to the best suited Italian varieties in Oz." Sam Scott (Owner / Winemaker)
"So I guess I am asking how many decent Aglianico vineyards are there in the Hills? Not many I'm tipping. Anyway this is pretty good, particularly at 7yrs. Dry, sinewy, tangy; fruit runs in very straight lines. Tannins in check. If you like Neb you'll like this and frankly a somewhat better option than cheaper Oz Neb. A very competent local effort."
